Colegio 21

President of Project Development, Sean McMurrey, has been working with a local high school in Marcala, Honduras. While working in the school, he has encountered numerous problems/difficutlties facing the young people pursuing an education. Public schools in the country's large cities receive little funding; those in rural areas (like Marcala) receive no funding at all. It is not uncommon to see school houses with holes in the roof, or with no plumbing and unhygienic latrines. The high school here in Marcala lacks adequate classrooms, and suffers from plumbing problems that prevent potable drinking water and latrines that produce a horrible stench. Another problem professors and students face is a lack of supplies. Barriers such as these make it difficult for youth to receive a proper education and better their lives. Like those in most Third World countries, the people of Honduras live far below the poverty line. The average annual family income is under $3,000. Without a strong educational base, future generations and Honduras as a whole stand no chance of improvement.
The first phase of this project is to build new classrooms for Colegio 21 in Marcala, Honduras. With more class rooms, students will have a better environment in which to learn.
