Brisas del Campo
|
| |
Brisas del Campo is a small community of 192 people located two kilometers off of the Pan American highway. The houses were built by two NGOs, Corporation for Peace and Caritas Honduras, in order to provide housing for families of scarce economic resources. An elementary school was recently built to educate the youth in the community. The majority of the community members work in the field farming pineapple, yucca, and coffee. Brisas del Campo currently does not have a water system. They were hauling water from a contaminated well but it has recently dried up. A nearby community donated their old water source and tubes to Brisas del Campo. Peace Corps Volunteers Oscar Lai and Max Kehm have provided Brisas del Campo with a topographic study and design for a water system utilizing this same mountain spring. The community has been able to provide three public faucets in the community using old donated PVC tubes. These old rotting tubes are a constant source of contamination and only serve to provide a temporary solution to their water crisis. This water comes directly from the mountain spring and is not treated with chlorine. Now, the community is asking for your help to fund their water project so that each house has access to clean, fresh, drinking water.
