Art and Culture
Marcala is a beautiful town located in the mountains near the border of El Salvador. Individuals of indigenous Lenca descent, El Salvadorian origin, and “Mestizos” share Marcala as their home, and influence the local culture. Unfortunately, outside influences threaten the community’s unique identity and rich history. A recently formed Art & Culture committee has taken up the challenge of maintaining Marcala’s heritage. As a group we have identified Art as a powerful way to express culture, and share stories. The committee has solicited help from local artist to create a mural illustrating the history and culture of Marcala, and what it means to be a “Marcalino”. The artists have agreed to offer their time and talents free of charge. However, materials such as paint, brushes, tiles, and other resources are still needed. With your help we would be able to purchase these materials, and share the story of Marcala with the town and its visitors, while at the same time promoting art and preserving the culture. Our goal is to raise $500 to create a quality mural. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Tax-deductible donations can be made by clicking on the donate tab.
